Collective Bargaining Rights for VA Nurses -- YOUR ACTION IS REQUIRED
Many of the collective bargaining rights that afforded to most employees are excluded by law, (USC 38 Title38) to the Registered Nurses of the Veterans Affairs hospitals. Throughout the years, this issue has been extremely problematic in terms of our ability to negotiate and bargain those issues that are of major importance to Registered Nurses in the VA. On November 6, 2007, a bill was introduced to United States Congress that would correct this issue and improve and grant full colllective bargaining rights to the Title 38 employees of the VA, including RNs. HR 4089 was introduced in a bipartisan bill. In order to move this bill forward, much education and support of other United States Represenatives is going to be required. NAGE R 3-19 calls on our membership and our RN colleagues to contact your local US House of Congress Representative and request their support to co sponsor this extremely important piece of legistration. YOUR ACTION IS REQUIRED. NAGE has developed a sample letter. Feel free to use the letter attached or send one of your own. You can mail your letter directly to your Congress person or give your letter to a NAGE officer and we will mail it for you. Also, a list of talking points have been developed for your convenience.
