The President's Corner - May 2008
MAY, 2008 May is the month we celebrate Mother’s Day, graduations, and yes Nurses Day. National Nurses Day is always celebrated on May 6 and is the start of National Nurses Week, which ends on May 12, the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth. Once again, VAMHCS along with different hospitals, companies and industries all across the country will be honoring and recognizing nurses and educating the public about the significant work they perform. The role that the nurses play in the delivery of health care cannot be overestimated. They are the backbone of the American healthcare system. For our VA nurses, caring is a way of life. With unrivaled commitment to our veterans, the VA nurses build the bridges to health for hundreds and thousands of veterans all across the country. It is fitting that this time is set aside to reflect and remember the contributions and commitment of the nursing profession in providing quality health in a caring and compassionate way. Nurses are our indispensable resource. Nurses Week -- a time for reflection and tribute -- a moment in time to celebrate these unique individuals who give Power of Care and Healing to our veterans from every walk of life. Let's embrace the theme for the year 2008 ---- NURSES .. MAKING A DIFFERENCE EVERYDAY.... Happy Nurses' Week Evelyn
